F. A. Q.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnosis

Is Hypnosis dangerous or risky?

Answer:  Many people are a little afraid of hypnosis simply because of the many myths and false portrayals of what Hypnosis really is.

People fear there might be a possibility they won’t ‘come out’ of hypnosis or that it might in some way negatively alter them.  There is also the fear that they will not have control over their actions and will be at the mercy of the hypnotherapist.

The facts are:

Hypnosis is completely safe and is a very natural state.  There is absolutely no way you will get stuck in hypnosis

You are always in full control of yourself while under hypnosis and would never, ever do anything that was not in alignment with your morals or personality.   Furthermore if you did not feel comfortable with anything that occurred during the session, you will always have the ability to simply stop the session.

You will never be ‘negatively’ affected by hypnosis.  The sole purpose is to bring about positive change.

Can anybody be Hypnotized?

Answer:  Absolutely anybody can be hypnotized.  The only people who cannot be hypnotized are those who have ‘decided’ they cannot be hypnotized and are determined not to be.

Many people do say “I cannot be hypnotized”… and the fact is,  if that is what they have pre determined… they are probably correct!!  (but only due to the fact that they are not ‘willing’ to be).

Does being hypnotized mean I have a “weak’ personality and that I am easily controlled?

Answer:  Absolutely not!

People who use hypnotherapy are people who have the ability to focus … which is quite the opposite of a weak minded person.  They are also intelligent enough to have an appreciation of the power of the mind… and in my books that is an excellent trait.

What happens if I fall asleep?

Answer:  Well… There are some who feel it is OK to fall asleep during a  hypnosis session and feel the benefits are still present…. However I do not agree!

Based on my own personal experience, when I’m asleep… I cease to hear or remember anything… so to me, if you fall asleep… although there is nothing wrong with that), and obviously you need the sleep :-)… you wont get the benefits of the session as you will if you are in a hypnotic state.

 What does hypnosis feel like?

Answer:  Hypnosis simply feels relaxing, yet the mind is fully focused on the positive suggestions.  It’s really about letting everything else go.  All the mind chatter subsides and you are able to simply absorb the positive suggestions to achieve your desired goal.

It’s a wonderful “time-out” and at the end of the sessions you will feel refreshed and ready to go on with the rest of your day.

How many sessions will I need?

Answer:  Though some people do glean results after only once session, more often than not three or four sessions are the norm.  There are some circumstances that may require up to six to fully achieve results, but this is not often the case.

Will I see results after the first session?

Answer:  As mentioned above, you may not reach your goals fully after the first session, but you will more than likely notice changes to a great degree.

I have found that often the first session can be viewed as a bit of a warm up session (If that makes any sense).  Often people are a little nervous, they don’t really know what to expect… and their mind might be a little more in anticipation of the session and keep them from achieving ‘total’ relaxation.

With that said, on the second session or subsequent sessions, people know what to expect and feel more relaxed.

Will I remember anything after the session?

Answer:  This varies from person to person.  Some people remember everything and some remember very little.

Generally speaking however, you will more than likely remember bits and pieces consciously…. But probably not everything.  Keep in mind however, your ‘subconscious’ mind will remember everything… and that is the most important part!!  🙂
